Interface for linking users
I've got two systems. The first is my web-based application. The second is an external application. Both systems have separate lists of users. Just because you're a user of my web app does not mean you have to be a user of the other app. The same holds true the other way around.
However, data does flow between systems that's specific to each user. In order to do this, the users need to be linked. I cannot guarantee any part of a user will be the same in both systems, so this requires the admin to manually perform a one-time linking of the users.
I'm having trouble coming up with a good design for this. For small amounts of users, a drop down box would work. However, customers with hundreds of users would find that challenging. Any suggestions?
My best idea so far is to try my best to find a match automatically, but provide an auto-complete box (like Google search) that you can type in to search for the user in the other system. That way, assuming you know part of their name or username, you can just do a quick search to find the user you want. Thoughts?

I'm not really up to speed on using FaceBook to log into sites,
but maybe something like that is an option. Or do it the same way.
I know you can log into many sites using your FaceBook login.

Can't you do it so it checks for email addresses, fb uid or something using FQL? Only just starting out with integrating fb to websites so can't give you that much help unfortunately

I'm not actually doing anything with Facebook, that was just an example from mlseim.
I will certainly suggest the link when I can. Both systems have usernames and names, so the first thing I will do is compare those. If there's a match or close match I'll say "hey, this one looks right". But there will be cases where they don't match, and that's the process I'm trying to perfect.
