    brainstorming for a domain name

I've been hosting my web design business in a sub directory of my personal site, but it's time now to purchase a seperate domain name for it. I should have done so a long time ago, as the one that I wanted most was available then (chrisdesigns.com). While I don't want to change my company name, I do want to get a domain name which is very closely related to my company.

    chris-designs.com
    chriswilldesign.com
    chriscandesign.com
    imakereallycoolwebsites.com
    cantbelieveit.com
    websitesthatmakeyousmile.com
    coolwebdesigns.net
    needawebsite.org
    imawebdesigner.net
    imawebdesigner.org

The obvious choice would be the first, but I wanted to avoid it because of the hyphen (which makes passing the address on by word of mouth more difficult). Please help think of more and/or help me decide on one of these, thanks.

    question

Why does it need your name in?

Just a thought, but perhaps look for a name with an edge to it. Not saying your name isn't cool, far from it. Perhaps try cwd.com or something similar.

Word of mouth and the word chris could be a stumbling blocked as you can spell it as Kris.

    Good luck mate.

try saying it to someone over the phone. If it is spelt the way it sounds it will be easy for people to understand.
If you had an odd domain name e.g. yodallyodallyyahuh.com it could easily be misinterperated so they don't get your website.

Phone? Need to look that one up

"[Good morning, Chris Design, Can I help you]"

I just replaced all my links to MySQL and SQL-plus to mysequel and sequel-plus (maybe you mist out on the earlier days) and all my B2B, E2E 's and the QT 's etc (not to mention all records i need to edit)

It's just a bit of turbo language. You can strip it even further down to X-D and create some kind a tag or sign with it, so it gets realy conceptual.
If it spells like it sounds, it's conventional, doesn't stand out (each second it keeps whirling in your mind counts)

Don't know. Just depends on the image and kind a customer you've got in mind.

raf i ment something like you might end up saying my portfolio or whatever is at mysite.com to anyone woh wants to know wheteer it be a mate or customer.

a better example is the word to. so for example you have the domain todaysite.com and say that they could end up at 2daysite.com twodaysite.com toodaysite.com or todaysite.com

So if they get a bad image as they think you have tricked them, given them a wrong address you could loose customers etc.

i know what you mean, but before posting, i ran a search to see if it was still available, and guess what : all domaincombination (.com,.org), with or without the - etc were available. Can't image someone typing in something similar (but i don't got much imagination)

Besides, don't underestimate the "i got the meaning"-effect.
I once worked somewhere they used an EMC² mainframe. You had people that could remember that, and some who didn't. Or xs4all .an internet provider that targets real surfers. Just raw speed and a huge softwarecentre. no portal or whatever --> They target (young) webkids so they use turbolanguage. My parents would never reed it as acces for all, but that's just the whole ID (ingroup-outgroup dynamics)

but all this is just blablabla.

    BroChris has to pick one
