    Image cycler

I'm wondering if there is some sort of tool or site out there that I can put my pics on, and have it change the filenames periodically. I want to do this for a myspace page (so that the background can keep changing).

So basically, my background is background.jpg, and I have background1.jpg, background2.jpg, etc, and I want the site/tool to change the filename to background.jpg by itself, every 5 minutes or so.

You can do this easier by just having the script switch the backgrounds it uses, instead of actually changing the filenames. Search for something like random background (script, javascript).

You're right, it would be MUCH easier to do this with javascript. I would just set an array and add in a random number, and have that change the source of the image.

The only problem is that myspace doesn't allow javascript, so instead of changing the source of the file (impossible to do without javascript), I want to change the file.

You would have to write a script, like with PHP, that would go in
and change things in your MySpace. I don't think it can be done.

    EDIT:

If you can reference images in other websites (hot-linking), you could
create a PHP script on someone else's site that controls all of your images.
Your MySpace would always be looking at the images on that other site,
so no changes would take place with MySpace, only with that other site.

You would need to find someone (like a friend) that would be willing to
let you use space on their site ... and hot-linking from MySpace.

Yes, thank you, this is what I was trying to say. I have a site (a Tripod site), and if Tripod doesn't allow PHP, which I think it does, I think I could get a friend to put the picture on his site without a problem.

So I guess I should post this in the PHP forum, since I have no idea how to write a PHP script.

    Santa Killer ..

How many pictures will it be?

On your friend's site, start uploading them with names like,
    p0.jpg , p1.jpg , p2.jpg ... p366jpg one for each day of the year.

Or, 31 of them (one for each day of the month),
or 12 of them (one each month).

Once you have a bunch of photos uploaded, I can help you out with
the script to display them. If you upload a whole bunch of them in some
sort of numerical order, you won't have to mess with it as often. The
script can control which one is being displayed.

Upload a few to your friend's site and give me the URL to a photo.
We can then test out a simple PHP script to see if it works and test out
the MySpace also ... make sure it works before you put too much into it.
