    bnd_bi_gal,

There is not magical script to enable downloading, you can download many different file formats just by using the <a> tag.

    <a href="myfile.zip>My file</a>

What do you want to download?

What is it an executable file (.exe), do you want them to download the file then load it onto there PC?

If that's the case, couldn't you just do:

    <a href="IRC-script.exe">Download IRC script</a>

    I might be wrong

Gee, I remember when I had that same problem lol..
Would have been 3-4 years ago now..

That is one thing you don't actually learn in a book in a tutorial in most cases but all you really need is to look at source code.

Yeah, but you do run into problems if you try to have people download things like .doc or .pdf files (just an example), where many times instead of the user being prompted to download the file, it will just open in the browser instead.

P.S. I would definitely avoid having a link to an .exe file, since many people (I for one) would be very skeptical of that (due to viruses, etc.) especially anything from a user on IRC (hacker heaven!)... I guess it all depends on what you're doing, though.

There are somewhat complicated server-side ways of overcoming this problem (by specifying MIME type, etc. on the server), but the easiest and fastest solution is to simply .zip a file using WinZip http://www.winzip.com and create a link to the .zipped file.
