(Nov 1st and beyond) Nominate a helpful member thread

Please this thread to nominate a help member with which you've personally received great help from recently, and would like to point out. Try and keep the time frame to this period, so a member is nominated based on his/her recent helpful actions rather than past history. The starting date of this thread is Nov 1st, 2005.

I'd like to nominate NikkiH. Sometimes I'll see at least 10 threads in a row in just one forum with Nikki's help. Nikki helps in almost every forum. And since you want current, Nikki has posted twice today with helpful advice too already, hehe. Always nice and extremely knowledgeable. Good job NikkiH!

EDIT: Sorry for assuming male. I changed my post above. I thought I had saw something either on Nikki's website or these forums made me assume male, hehe. Oops. Sorry if i offended, hehe.

Ok, I hope this isn't taken the wrong way, so hopefully I do a good job explaining myself, hehe.

I believe that a Helpful Member award should be only given to those who are not CF staff. I know that the moderators and advisors are all here because they were once members who had devoted enough time to really make these forums a great resource and then wanted to continue to do so.

That being said, one part of a moderator's job is to help members with their their coding problems, which is why they must be adept at the language they are moderating (as posted in WA's post, along with other replies, about new moderators). So naturally they will be posting and helping everyone already. I think this award should be given to those who are not "expected" to go out of their way to help everyone, like Fou-Lou or NikkiH. These members don't have a committment or job here and so should actually deserve the award of Helpful Member more than someone who is already suppose to be doing that as part of their position here at CF.

However, I would certainly like to see credit given where credit is due. So maybe two separate contests should be made, where one is a Helpful Member Award and the other is Helpful Mod Award or Helpful Staff Award.

Hopefully I haven't offended anyone. Like I said, I really do appreciate all the moderators here and all their help they have given and time they have donated to make these forums a great place to utilize That is why I wouldn't mind seeing a separate Award for them! But then again, you all may feel that whether or not a moderator, the person is still devoting much of their time to helping others, which is definitely understandable. I just see it that one part of a moderator's job is already to be helpful, so this award should be geared toward those not required to be so generous with their time and advice.

Sorry for the long-winded post. Again, I hope no one has been offended. I just wanted to express my opinion about this award thread.

I dont want to sound up-myself, but I dont agree... I mean, i can see what your saying, but none of the moderators here are paid, everyone volunteers of their own free will. If (like some forums), the moderators were paid then I can see your logic, but I think seeing as all the moderators are volunteers they should be allowed to recieve nominations.

Like i said, I'm not just saying this becuase I have recieved 2 nominations and am a moderator... For example, i nominated oracleguy for helping me out. I couldnt have nominated him under your rules.

sorry TheShaner but I have agree with missing-score on this. Though maybe the results can show who was the most voted for moderator and non moderator. With of course the grand overall winner :-)
my mind is on a permanent tangent

It's ok, I definitely see where you both are coming from. I just thought it might be better if two separate nominations were done. I know none of the CF staff is paid or anything and as I said in my post that I do recognize that you all are definitely donating your time to help.

I just also sort of see that by offering WA your services as a moderator, you are pledging to him that you will be a helpful member already. You have already told him that you will do your best be a helpful member and take care of the members under your moderation. So it's sort of a self-nomination. Basically all moderators should then be nominated for this award each time because you all have already said you would do just that. The other members that have gone out of their way to help out have never made any kind of promise to be helpful. That's why you all volunteered to be Moderators in the first place: you wanted to be a helpful member! hehe.

So I would rather see this contest for non-staff and have something separate for the staff of CF. The CF staff is certainly very helpful and generous with their time here, so I never want to see you all completed excluded from recognition of your services. It's just for this award it seems like a bit of an oxymoron for a moderator to be getting a helpful member award when that's what a moderator is suppose to do, hehe.

That's ok that you may not agree. Let the nominations go on by all means! I just wanted to see if anyone else felt as I did.

    -Shane
