    My rant...

What is it with people saying "check my sig" when that sig has no content, scripts or help?

People with the "help me, it's urgent" threads seam to becoming more popular too, which are pointless as no one ever answers those threads.

The spammers are the worst though, especially the ones that are 'offering help', when all their site contains is a link archive for other sites.

One more thing, people that don't ask for help properly and expect you to know what script/program/site they're talking about and when you can't help, they get mad, due to them not explaining their problem, script etc

Is it old age getting to me or something?

I hardly see a difference from how it was a year ago. Sure, there seems to be more worthless topics right now, but I's sure the real reason it seems so is simply that the forums are a lot more active now than they were last autumn.

    Check my sig!

On a more serious note, there have always been the "help! urgent! boss kills me in 2 hours" threads. Sometimes I really have to fight with myself not to post a sarcastic comment like "oh, but it's not urgent for me over here. relax and enjoy life" and not answer the question at all. But given that many people seem to rush to post their problem without reading the guidelines, I think the best way to handle them is as Spookster does: Politely remind them to first read the rules. And ignore them until they actually do.

Regarding posters who lose their temper and get mad, I think it helps to politely remind them that it's them who want to get helped, not us. And if they succeeded to make you angry, tell them you're gonna ignore their posts from now on.

If nothing helps, write a rant in the feedback forum.

I'm not referring to anyone specifically.

I guess it's just that time of year where ppl have bought a new domain or whatever with their xmas money and are just wanting to gain money by affiliates or something, but it's still starting to bug me as they're just wasting people's time as the posts aren't really heling anyone, whether the thread creators or anyone wanting an answer from a search engine etc

I also hate those posting "Multiple scripts won't work" questions and the immortal question, "How do I protect my page?". Those questions and this thread prompted me to put thread links in my sig for commonly asked problems/scripts and posting rules. Now I say, check my sig.

I'm aware of all the problems mentioned here, and have been for a while. One problem is the neglect of the forum on my part recently due to lack of time. The release of VB3 will give me a good starting point to devote more time into CF and make some big directional changes. Hopefully that will lead to some fundamental improvements overtime.

Happened to me once. Not even getting me mad but starting to annoy me http://www.codingforums.com/showthre...light=ignoring
And it seems like i,made the right decission, because some people just don't learn and even months later, after we tell them 5 times or so what they should change, they still waste our time using the same buggy code that throws them an error http://www.codingforums.com/showthre...threadid=33341

In itself, it's fascinating to watch if you've created some distance from it ...

I've got the same impression as Nightire : it has been getting worse the past few weeks. I've read all sorts of nonsense here lately

lol... it's true that it isn't easy to annoy raf. When I started to ask my first questions in the ASP forum he was very patient and believe me I was a pain...

I know I'm only a newb here, but you guys are right. There seems to be a lull in the usual thought provoking discussions which made this board so attractive in the first place. I think it's a case of all the serious coders are too busy working this time of year to sit and ponder the great complexities of this whole inter-webby-thing

    *edit: see my sig.

I take no responsibility for the above nonsense.

My problem lies in that nearly nobody is taking my discussions to the level I want them. It'd be really fun to again happen in a JKD/Beetle/Brothercake/Alex Vincent/me discussion. And to that I think you could add a number of old or new people that I never really had discussion with before...

Hasn't really been that many real interesting discussions lately to be honest. Lately I've barely been touching Javascript and instead having fun with cutting-edge CSS, but there hasn't been much advanced talk in either of those the last few months.
