    Spam

So we have tons of spam posts, seemingly directly corresponding to the timeline of the new forum upgrade. It this new spam, or are our trusty moderators not (or not able) to delete it?

I actually wasn’t able to delete it due to database errors, could only unapprove them (which I did when I was online). But now the errors appear to have gone and I’m able to remove it. However, I’m not omnipresent and need to sleep and have a non-virtual life, too. There is a correspondence between the forum upgrade/change and the reappearing spam, though, because we got rid of most spam in the latest state of the old forum and now it’s more again. I suppose the filter module/plug-in isn’t working in this version and a new one needs to be found.

This is the normal amount of spam we typically get. The old version had an addon of some sorts that nearly eliminated visible spam. It was great. I miss it.
Peoples always thought I was joking when I said the spam that's visible is a drop in the bucket

It's horrifying. I find myself with the greatest empathy for those who have to deal with layer upon layer of unintelligible trash.

On the plus side, its almost like the General Web Building forum is the honeypot

    But that's where I live D:

Also, on a more serious note, I will not be seriously contributing to this forum until the spam is under control. I post mainly from my school, and the NSFW nature of a majority of these spam posts could result in penal action being taken.

    I am sorry.

Can't the moderators add a captcha plugin for vBulletin? That should atleast bring down less sophisticated spambots.

We will make this our next priority in the list of issues regarding the upgrade to the forum software. There were compatibility issues with the spam control plugin we were using so we will be implementing either an updated version or a new one altogether.

I second that, please no captcha!!
Validate often DURING development - Use it like a splelchecker | Debug during Development |Write it for FireFox, ignore IE
Use the right DocType | Validate your markup | Validate your CSS | Why validating is good | Why tables are bad

The CAPTCHA never works anyways, even the basic spam bots can easily get past it these days.
