    There is the ability to mark a thread as solved: Edit your first post (in advanced mode) and choose “Resolved” from the select box next to the title. However, editing your posts is only alowed within a certain time frame (of which I currently don’t know the length from mind).

    ... then a practical improvement needs to be made. Hardly anyone is going to find that. I also doubt anyone is gonna make the effort. A simple "Mark as solved" or something needs to be placed in the thread tools menu.

    Yes, but not as often as they either don't find it or don't even look around for it. Even well-meaning and otherwise pleasant folks have a tendency to overlook the guidelines section (which gives a rundown of the procedure - buried in the last item in the list). Even some moderators forget that it's there ().

    Making it more apparent would be good. I think it's something like putting garbage cans in convenient places in public areas. People who would otherwise just toss their litter on the ground might actually pop it into a bin if you make it easy enough for them to find one. There will always be people who will drop their litter where they stand, regardless, but you can snag a lot more semi-apathetic people if you make it dead simple for them to follow the rules.

    And the frequency with which we see people asking how to mark their thread as resolved does hint at an underlying confusion about the process.

    So I actually think that there could be some improvement in the "mark as resolved" method. As for what specifically that would be... ::shrug::

    It's usually a good idea to start out with this at the VERY TOP of your CSS: * {border:0;margin:0;padding:0;}
    Seek and you shall find... basically:
