How do I display static image with embedded Flash video where autoplay=false on load?

I know this is really basic stuff, but I can't seem to find any information on this particular problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used the embed code generated by a website whose Flash video I am including in a web page. As provided, the video plays without a problem.

But I did not want the video to play automatically, so I set the auto_play to false, and now a transparent box containing a 'play' arrow, bordered on top and bottom with solid bars (and, of course, the controls) is displayed.

I want a 'still' image to be displayed when the video initially loads, and I'm not sure how to do that.

Does anyone know what do I need to do?

    ...

    Okay a bit more info...

The first couple of frames of the video are blank (white, actually) and then it gets into the video itself.

If it's not easy/possible to display an image when the video is not playing, perhaps there is a way to ask it to display one of the frames a couple of seconds in?

The main thing is that I don't want a blank box staring at visitors. I'd like a 'still' image to represent what the video contains.
