What language should I learn to create a freestanding 2d RPG game for the PC?

Hello! I'm new to the forums, so forgive me if this is a dumb question.
I want to create a classic, turn-based RPG game for the PC. I may port it to another system, but I'm mainly focusing on creating it for at least one platform to begin with. I was thinking Python, but I'm not sure.

I'd say the lack of responses is likely due to the lack of information you have provided. For starters a game could be something as simple as a command line based text only game where it prompts you for information and you type a response and it returns precanned responses based on some logic or something as fancy as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 with a high end GUI utilizing various controllers such as game controllers, keyboards mice, etc. Drastically different programming languages and technologies involved.

Ah...yeah, probably. Sorry about that. :P
I suppose what I'm looking for is a language that would allow me to convert the code into an executable file or a Windows installer package when I'm done. I've always had a dream of creating a classic, turn-based, 2d RPG game, but I have no idea where to start. It will use the keyboard as the controller.
I already have a friend who will sprite for me, and I'm currently writing the storyline now. I just need to know how to bring it all together.
I apologize if this is still too vague.
