    hey guys

I am learning C++ in school, and they gave us a crappy version of

i was wondering what are the best IDE's for C++ that are

    Free

    Paid for.

It is all about personal preference, you can get Visual C++ Express 2008 for free off Microsoft's website. You can buy the full the version of Visual Studio as well. I think it is pretty decent IDE.

Code::Blocks is the other IDE I use it works on Windows and Linux.

I would recommend at least looking at the express version I mentioned since Visual C++ 6.0 came out 10 years ago.

On the information page it should have talked about what you need to do with Visual C++ Express if you want to write native C++. It certainly said that for the 2005 version. Do you remember it talking about the Windows Platform SDK? You need to download and install that since they don't bundle it with the express version.
