What is the best way to start a programming career.
I'm new to the forum, and just wanted to get some advice from people working in the field.
I'm about to graduate with a BS in Information Technology with .NET concentration. I've been working in an non-computer field for the past 12 years, since graduating from High School. Over the years I've gone to college at night to get my degree. After all this time, I'm finally at the end, and I really don't know where to start at this point.
I've made a few basic static web sites and small VB Basic applications for the company I work for, but other than working on assignments in school, i don't have much experience.
I look at some of the ads in the newspaper, and I honestly can't say how my qualifications fit in.
If anyone has any advice on what kind of jobs to look for, or what kind of languages or anything else I should be doing with my free time.

If you're confident in your skills, and ambitious enough, doing freelancing is a great way to go.
