    The 3rd 360 Revolution

Next gen consoles! The Revolution is the sleekest looking of all of them (and smallest), and promises compatibility with not just Gamecube games, but N64, SNES, NES, etc via rom downloads on a Nintendo site.

Xbox 360 is by far the most powerful (something like 1 terraflop of computing power), but also the largest, and well, most computer-like.

And you have the PS3 right in the middle power-wise, and probably least creativity-wise (PS1, PS2, PS3... come on).

They all have wireless controllers, wireless internet connectivity, and all around awesomeness.

I'm buying Nintendo, and possibly Microsoft (for Perfect Dark sequel and Halo games).

    Discuss!

Umm... The PS3 is meant to be the most powerful, being able to do 2 terraflops/second, double the 360's power...

Judging by the comparison charts I've read, the PS3 is the most powerful of the three. System specifications are fairly irrelevent to the console gaming industry IMO. Anything graphically or performance wise can be bested with a solid gaming box. What it all comes down to is titles. Who's got the best games, first.

Nintendo gamecube (and nintendo itself for that matter), is kept alive for one reason and one reason only; A couple of italian brothers and their friends (the little elf boy helps too). You want em, and like em, you buy nintendo. Sony dominated due to the GTA series and prior to that, nintendo's loss of capcom. Xbox is the PC (wo)man's console and sold a lot in part due to it's tweakability, and unwarranted hype.

I want SNES shock. Remember that? It hasn't happened since. That first time you put in a SNES title, your jaw hit the floor (you know it did). I'll never forget it. I rented the box from the local mom and pop video store (that's what we had before blockbuster), and the only title was golf, dissapointing . When I saw that ball roll into the hole though, it was like heaven, so real, so clear, such wonderful sound.

I want that from these next gen consoles. Make my eyes pop out of my head that first time I turn it on. Alas, I find the possibility doubtful. Surprise me and I will gladly switch my mouse and keyboard for my once favored controller.

Eh, shows how much I care about the PS3. You really don't need 2 terraflops for a good game console.

You just can't mess with the quality of Nintendo. They've always delivered a solid console, and good games. Even if they are contrary to everything mainstream, you can't help but love them. (Super Monkey Ball, Pikmin, Wind Waker, etc.) And the big secret behind the Revolution... knowing Nintendo, it will revolutionize the game industry. I still play Mario Kart for the N64 semi-regularly, when I have a PS2 and San Andreas sitting next to me. There's just something "fun" about Nintendo games that I've never seen anywhere else.

And nobody can doubt the awesomeness of any Zelda game since the original Nintendo.

Agreed! They are about fun, and they do a good job of making games fun. Mario Kart 64 is the second best game ever, for a group gaming session, offline. Nothing beats Street Fighter (any version). Nor can anyone beat me like I beat them.

Now, I have to take back my statement:

I want SNES shock. Remember that? It hasn't happened since.
PSP gave me that, I wasn't expecting graphics those advanced on something so small for another few years. Granted the load times are awful, but it is a very big step for handheld gaming, and computing for that matter.

I hope Nintendo does "revolutionalize" the industry (again). It's time. The last batch of next gens, IMO were only a half a generation. 64 beating out PS1, PS2 beating out 64, Xbox attempting to beat out PS2, and then Nintendo just coasting along on their past glories. Too many baby steps that stifled that, "Woah! This is new!" feeling. At least this time they are all coming out in roughly the same time frame, so maybe we will get a real Next Generation Console.

P.S. - Good fun thread. There should be a gaming forum.

Yes, you do have to take back a statement, but not the one you listed after that. I've made so-called masters cry after a few rounds against me in Mario Kart 64.

I'd totally have to agree with jkd about Nintendo quality. It's the Apple of the gaming world.

I've already got a (working) NES, SNES, N64, GCN, GB, GBA, and GBA SP (not including the non-Nintendo Genesis, PSX, PS2, PC, and Mac), so I'm not sure how much more of an investment I'm ready to make in the next-gen consoles yet without getting more power strips first.

probably because of the components or something....however all you have to do is to look at the specs, reviews etc and you'll see which one is better

But there's no point comparing things which aren't different .

Exactly, so how come we *can't* compare the Xbox 360 to the PSP3 or whatever it is?

M$ have no plans to make an Xbox 2, they're making the Xbox 360, their next gen console, like the PS3.

As for which one I'm getting, I'd love to get the Revolution, Zelda and Mario make it worthwhile. However, it probably won't have so many games as the PS3/Xbox 360, 3 things will make up my mind, price, games and graphics quality.

Ha! I was refering to Street Fighter. Though I can hold my own in some Mario Kart 64 too. Too bad it's not internet friendly, I'd make you put your money where your mouth is .
