    2MB Broadband

Is anyone on here in the UK with BT Broadband, I'am and at the moment I'm running at 512 k/bs now they say there upgrading to 2MB?! Why is this? do they want us to buy something else, will this be temporary or do you think it will be permanant.
    Just wondering

I heard they were running trials for 2MB broadband. I have BT's 512kb/s service which is ok, but I would like something faster. However, I don't think it will be available in all areas.

UKonline offer 8MB/s DSL for £39.99 a month - but it isnt available in a lot of areas.http://www.ukonline.net/8000/. They also do 2MB broadband for £29.99PM

I got my letter the other day explaining and said the cost does not change yet this seems incredibly unrealistic that the cost will stay the same yet the speed of the Broadband is going up to 4 times faster.
There is a 15GB download limit, maybe they are going to get there money back because the speed is faster we will surf and download things more and go over our download limit, thus making our bills higher
    I'm just guessing here

We have a 2mb connection here in Australia but its with a rediculously low download rate.

I dont see what the point is of having an exceptional quick internet connection and then having a really small download limit.

The only reason I havent upgraded from my 512down/256up account is because I get a considerably better download limit.

Well I'm not too sure about the download rate of my 2MB Broadband as it hasn't been upgraded yet, my 512k/bs download rate is 60k/bs on average, when it's upgraded and I know my download rate I will post back here and tell you the speed of it

Yeh mine is 512/256 (download/upload) - I think the 2MB would be something like 2048/1024 (corrected) - dunno tho.

I think the 2MB would be something like 1025/512
Wouldnt it be something like 2048/512 seeing as it is a 2mb connection and not
    a 1mb connection.

I'm not entirely sure here, but aren't connection speeds usually measured in Kb (kilobit), not in KB (kilobyte)? If you have a 1024/512 connection, you aren't actually getting 1024 KB/s in download and 512 KB/s in upload, but rather 125 KB/s in download and 62.5 KB/s in upload (1 Kb = ~0.12 KB).

Anyways, my ISP has doubled my connection speed two times during the last six months, without any price changes.

I think it will be permenant, but BT have always been a bit money grabbing, so I don't see why they would do this apart from to keep up with the competition of other ISPs. 2MB is pretty fast tho, but a 15GB BW limit makes me kinda angry . I suppose that is where they make their money

that is nice...however 1152kbps is 1MB broadband. I think 2mb would be 2048kbps. They are upgrading people from the 17th according to their website.
