    Question Monitor for Reading

    Greetings,

I'm wondering if there are certain types/brands of monitors that are especially good for reading. I tend to strain my eyes programming and reading articles on the web.

To a much greater extent, the same can be said about notebooks. Is there an eyes-friendly screen available?

    Thanks,
    James

Well, there are specific black-white screens made just for reading, but I've not seen any of those recently. Other than that, TFT screens despite lower update frequencies have the benefit of not flickering, so a TFT is probably better than a CRT for you.

I'm so used to my LCD ATFT monitor, I can't stand the flicker of a CRT monitor , anyhow, TFT's are the way to go for reading... Or anything IMO, just don't get a bad, cheap one.

Overall, I find TFT's easier for reading. As I'm shortsighted, I like something which doesn't flicker and has a high resolution. A 17" TFT is a good bet, and come pretty cheap nowadays.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

    I'll look into a TFT.

    Reflection Filter

I have 2 19" TFTs and just love them. Get a reflection filter for your monitor to make it even easier on your eyes. Light reflection can also play hell with your eyes. Last but not least, get up and look out a window or something at least once an hour. This gives gives your close up vision a much needed break. Check out this website

Also on your CRT you can increase the refresh rate and make it easier on your eyes. Like I know I can't stand 60Hz on a CRT, 75 is a lot easier on the eyes for me.
