    Unhappy Really big Win2003 problem!

Lately I have been getting an error which tells me that RPC (remote procedure call) has terminated unexpectedly and windows needs to restart. This wouldn't be so important, but it happens every hour or so.

    Also, after I restart I get this message - http://www.codingforums.com/attachme...tid=3151&stc=1 .

BTW I have Win2003 Standard installed, but when I had XP the same thing happend.

    Please help me, I'm desperate!

Make sure your pc is protected with the latest antivirus update. A number of viruses could cause this problem. I've had this problem while i was the tech support for an internet cafe with 40 systems. All of them were rebooting every 10 minutes. I've also come accross the problem many other times and they were all caused by viruses

Sounds most like a virus problem. There are a number of different viruses which cause the RPC service to stop. You can temporarily make the RPC service restart without giving out any errors. To do this:

    Start > Run > services.msc > Remote prodecure call > recovery tab
and then select "restart this service". The default for 1st faliure., 2nd faliure and 3rd faliure is to restart the computer. Thats what I do to computers hit by Blaster before I patch them.

However, it still sounds like a virus problem, especially Blaster. Windows Update and AVG Antivirus will help you out there

If you didnt install any updates for either 2k, XP or server 2k3, you will get either the same error amongst others, as Blaster affects a hole in the RPC service.

    Thumbs up

Thanks, guys! I forgot to mention that I scanned the whole system for virii, but got nothing, not even blaster.

Eventually I got sick of restarting and went to RPC properties where I set the recovey options to "take no action".
I'll go right now to Windows Update and get some patches (I hope the list is not a mile long) and see what happens. So far so good - no restarts for 1 and 1/2 hours.
