    Firefox download problem

    Hey
When I try to download stuff, the downloads stop suddenly half way through. This doesnt happen all the time, just occasionally. Also, MSN Messenger keeps signing me out every 10-15 minutes...

My problems seemed to start when I changed the patch cable connecting my laptop to my network switch - I havent yet changed the cable as the only other computer connected to it is my desktop pc..

The sad thing is, I was trying to download Integrity Messenger 8 or 9 times the other day..and the download stopped every time, so I had to cancel it, restart it and I finally got somewhere when I turned my other pc off

    Any ideas?

    Jamie.

Well my laptop is the host, with my USB dsl modem connected to it. I have ICS enabled on the connection, which is BT's 512kb/s connection (total rubbish). My laptop is then connected via branded (can't find the make, but its brand new) cat 5e patch cable to my switch. The only computer connected to my switch other than my laptop is my desktop computer which runs windows 2000.

I've never had this problem before, and my internet connection appears to be fine when it isnt connected to my switch. Firefox is still being screwy even when my computer isn't connected to the switch and just has the modem plugged in..as for Messenger, I have now switched from MSN Messenger to Windows Messenger and appears a bit more reliable. The weird thing is, the sign-out problem only appears when my desktop pc has someone likes my brother's account signed in on it....

I havent changed the cable yet, ah, thats a idea - I'll do that now

Seems like a cable problem to me. The cable's likely disconnecting and reconnecting. Change it and see what happens. If it doesn't solve the problem, i suggest you try swapping the switch.

Yeh the weird thing is, my laptop has ICS enabled on my BT broadband connection. Also my broadband connection is active whilst I am connected to my switch and sharing the internet to win2kpc (my desktop). I don't loose my internet connection, just that MSN/Windows Messenger and Trillian keep signing out...I think it is down to me using the same port for two instances of messenger running through the same pc (one on my laptop and one on win2kpc) . However I dont think this would affect it, as one instance is running through the messenger IM port on my other pc and one on my laptop.....and then connected through the same modem etc etc

I might reformat as it has been messing me around lately. It hasn't signed me out of messenger much lately when I have been connected to my switch. Another possibility could be that Messenger itself is buggered somewhere, but I have tried Trillian, MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger (which is being the stablest at the moment). I would have tried IntegrityMessenger, but I installed it on my win2k pc and it was flippin' confusing to configure...
