    Laptop harddrive to be used as USB Desktop external harddrive

    Helio,

    I have a harddrive form my Acer Aspire which I would like to use as an external harddrive now the laptop is beyond repair, being cheaper to purchase a new one. I purchased something to use it as a USB external harddrive but it did not fit.

    Does anyone know what I need from my picture below?

    Best Regards,
    Tim

    I don't recognize that connection (it appears to have bent connection pins anyways), but it almost looks like there's something still on the drive. If I had to gather it, that's a 2.5" IDE connection with another connector on top of it. Try to give it a quick wiggle to see if its somewhat pliable, if so its probably an additional interface; if so, remove it by pulling it straight off of the device (don't rock it back and forth).

    You should be able to get the make and model from the top of it as well, that can be checked for the connection type if its not printed on the label.

    Edit:
    Actually, best to start with the label. I found a very similar image here: http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/2...ddrive2wl7.jpg which if you make out the top label it says its a serial drive, which would make it a SATA under the connector.

    PHP Code:
    header('HTTP/1.1 420 Enhance Your Calm');
    Been gone for a few months, and haven't programmed in that long of a time. Meh, I'll wing it ;)

    Took off the white label, under is a shiny circle... The metal case seems to be heavely screwed on...

    Wait what? I didn't mean to take off the label, I meant to read the label. It'll either tell you what type of connection it uses or it would tell you the model number of the drive so you can check it with the manufacturer.
    I meant to see if the interface is covered with an adapter of some sorts, not that the label is an adapter.

    This is what I'm talking about:
