    About vista account password...

    Hi,

I have Windows Vista, desktop just 1 admin account - if I create a user password for this account does this help me against online hackers?

Also should I require password after waking from sleep?

Depends on the type of password. If it's the master password, a hacker with this could do whatever they wanted to your system. If it's just to get into the computer, the hacker would have to be onsite to access your computer and do damage with it.

This is not to say that hackers cannot do damage from afar. Just that the password to enter your computer would not have a use to them. (Unless it was the same as your other passwords)

Maybe I wasn't clear, should I create a user password or not for my Windows Vista administrator account?

Yes. It's the best for security purposes. It prevents someone from just walking up and monkeying with your account.

Well, it could or could not, depending on what they did to your computer. If they simply got remote access, they would need an administrator password to mess with core computer functions. If they did anything else, your password would not save a thing. Get some antivirus to protect against hackers, I suggest Kaspersky or Avast.

But if hacker will crack the password? I think if someone attack on your system and he hack then how you can say that hackers will not crack the password?

If a hacker cracks your system, there isn't much you can do. At best, an admin password would interfere momentarily with an experienced hacker. I think that prevention is the best way to go here. Just be careful where you go and always run an Anti-Virus.

If a hacker merely gains access to your computer, an admin password would prevent them from accessing core computer functions without hacking the password or figuring it out.

That's not to say they would not be able to do damage.
