    Question Sudden loss of internet

    Hello, everyone.

I am unable to log on to CF from work, so if you post anything and I don't respond within an hour, you'll know I'm either at work, or asleep.. or both. LOL.

My father's computer has suddenly lost its internet connection. The computer is seeing and accessing the router through the CAT5 cable with no issues; it's just the internet has stopped working on his computer. I've disabled the firewall, checked all network settings - they are as they should be -, checked for proxy being used (it's not), and cannot seem to figure out why the computer isn't connecting to the internet, even though his computer can access the router (I used it to check the router settings and didn't see anything out of place.)

The router is about a month old, and his internet was great, until about a week ago; also, my laptop connects to the internet just fine through that router, so it's not the router.

I've tried AV and malware scans, to no avail. I'm running out of ideas. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

It's a DELL desktop running Windows XP SP3, and the router is a Linksys E1200.

    in command prompt

    netsh int ip reset reset
    netsh winsock reset

also check the proxy settings in internet options > connections > LAN settings
there should be no proxy set

what you get if you (again in command prompt)

    ping google.com

    and

    ping 150.101.13.84

    ?
    resistance is...

MVC is the current buzz in web application architectures. It comes from event-driven desktop application design and doesn't fit into web application design very well. But luckily nobody really knows what MVC means, so we can call our presentation layer separation mechanism MVC and move on. (Rasmus Lerdorf)

Hi, firepages. Thanks for the reply.

As stated in my original post, I "checked for proxy being used (it's not)". But everything else you have suggested, I will do as soon as I get home from work, tomorrow.

    Respectfully,
    ^_^
