    recover files after system restore

    Hello Every body ,

Need help retrieving files after system recovery
I have a Windows Vista Home Premium and I had the xp 2009 virus. Geek squad told me to try system restore so I did and the virus remained. The next step they said was system recovery. Fist I tried to save my files to a disk. Then I did system restore. Problem solved no viruses...except when I put my saved disk in there was no files just the icon for a shortcut containing no files. I lost all my pictures and am trying to get them back. I know it is possible to get them back because other companies can get them back for a hefty price. I need help please ansewer if you can. ?

    Plz tell me.

    Thanks for your suggestion

there are programs out there for data recovery but they all suggest (wisely) that you use a different disk to restore to, have you got an external hard drive or similar ?

most important I hope you are not using that machine ATM, the more you use the machine the more you reduce your chances of a successful recovery.

if you have a backup drive and have not used the PC much then look for and download a linux live cd such as this , then google for 'testdisk' and 'photorec', bith of which (actually the same program) are on the live linux.

if you get stuck , post, just NOT on the affected computer!
    resistance is...

MVC is the current buzz in web application architectures. It comes from event-driven desktop application design and doesn't fit into web application design very well. But luckily nobody really knows what MVC means, so we can call our presentation layer separation mechanism MVC and move on. (Rasmus Lerdorf)

Indeed Firepages has provided a good solution for the problem, but sometimes it becomes impossible for the user, to get the recovery of the lost data using those solutions as they are technically very high ot use and understand. Other than that recovery of the lost data is possible only by the professionals and also sometimes by those who do it illegally, but if the lost data is very urgent and important, then any how customer has to pay for it, to get it back.
