Exclamation Convert .exe file to ISO (for XP PRO SP2 CD) SORTED

Can I put an .exe file to a cd as an iso file. I have tried loading into a burner but it will not take the exe file, so I am stymied.

Any help - tuition greatly appreciated.

What is the exe for??? surely you could ust try to add it as a file on the CD as a file like with Nero or some other CD writing software.

If it is like a self extracting zip or rar file??? u could use winrar to extract the contents to a folder and burn that to the CD.

Without more info it is impossible to help you more!

The .exe indicates a self executing file. I have tried burning this to a cd, but it doesn't work. Also I need an iso file for making a composite XP installation disk.

I used to have a self-installing SP2 disk, but it got damaged.

have u tried using a program like?

    http://www.ebswift.com/OpenSource/DoISO/

u could create an autorun file that would start up the EXE file once the CD once window loads it.

Double click on the exe you get from MS. It will extract some files into a folder on your C drive. Take note of this location as you will need to find it. After it extracts everything the update will begin to start. This is fine. Once it starts go to the folder the files were extracted to, and make a copy of it. It doesn't matter where, just as long as you do it before the update completes because the folder is temporary and it gets deleted after the update is done. Once you've copied the files you will need a program that can create ISOs. Nero burning rom can do this, among other programs. After making the iso, the file needed to run for installation is in the updates folder under the i386 folder and its called update.exe

TBH, I think you should just order the CD as it seems like its more trouble for you than its worth.

BTW you DON'T need an iso of SP2 to streamline a Win XP SP2 Disc.

I should know, I've followed the instructions in the link I gave you on the other thread and it worked fine.

    Thanks Aero.

I'll have another go. I have ordered the CD, but I wanted (just for my ego) to make a combined disk.
I have had very little experience of CD burning.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. or something like that!

mic2100 Thanks for the URL. It is the best to date, at least for me.
