    passing information

I am trying to pass information specifically password and username, after deleting a record. I know that once the record is deleted the recordset is empty but I was hoping that there was a way to store the information in a variable that won't lose it after deleting the record. I don't want to use cookies. Does anyone know how to hold the information in a variable even after deleting the record?

What I am doing is showing a list of the users records and allowing the user to delete the records individually, but once the record is deleted I can't get and pass the username and password back to the server to return to the list of that users records unless the user re-enters password and username info. As I'm sure you guessed, I am still pretty new to this stuff. Any help is appreciated.

You need to be more specific about what you're doing and what type of help you need.

Does anyone know how to hold the information in a variable even after deleting the record?
If you are staying on the same page, just assign your information to the variable and it'll remain there as long as the page is active and your session is active. If you are changing pages, then you probably need to assign them to a session variable and they'll remain as long as your session is active.

Since you are new to asp, you might want to read up on ASP coding. There's a very good tutorial available here

tboss132 has this one on the nose, however it does use one cookie, but this cookie is only an ID to link the Session to that user. Sessions are the way to go.

Thanks, I'll read the article. I have one more question, perhaps you could help with this too? I am having trouble passing information from a variable to a textbox. I am creating a form that allows the data from text box to be inserted into a sql server database, if there is too much user input (I check the length of the user input) I response.redirect to a page that advises the user which textbox to edit and populates the textboxs with all previous input so that only the problem textbox needs to be corrected and the rest does not have to be retyped. All very typical but the problem I am having is that the data being returned to the edit page (which is repopulating the text box) is only part of the original data. Something is causing the data to be cut off after the first word. For example, if the original input was 'The dog is big' and I allow 12 characters for that box, when the user submits the form the length is checked and found to be 14, which generates a response.redirect to my edit page but when I try to repopulate the textbox that needs to be amended all I get is 'The' The rest of the sentence is gone! It seems that when it encounters a space that's when it stops. What's that all about? Any ideas.
