    Question Please help with running my first ASP script

    I need to install a local testing server to run ASP scripts on my computer

    I have installed inetpub folder (IIS) on my local computer, according to the instructions that I have found on w3 schools. Then , inside the folder wwwroot, I have created a folder myasp and then created a test.asp file inside it with the following code
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html>
    <body>
    <%
    response.write("Hello World!")
    %>
    </body>
    </html>
    When i tried to run this code using this link :
    http://localhost/myasp/test.asp
    ,the browser produced a page with the following message:
    HTTP Error 404.3 - Not Found
    The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME map.

    Can please someone help me understand what went wrong? and how can I fix it. I don't what handler is. Thank you very much for help

    You probably didn't enable ASP in IIS. Modern versions of IIS come with ASP disabled by default. The keywords in the message are "because of the extension configuration."

    Google for "enable ASP in IIS xx" where you replace "xx" with the version of IIS you are using.

    Thank you very much!!! I googled enable ASP in IIS in Windows 7 and I found this link
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/...-Allow-Classic

    the last step Site Setup was very challenging but it worked, but i guess every time I create a new web-site I will have to make sure that it uses the right pool. Setting up local apache XAMPP server is easier.
    Thank you very much.!

    Ummm...you can only set up a single website on IIS in any version of Windows that isn't classified as a "server edition". I think the smallest/cheapest (and it isn't cheap!) version that qualifies is Microsoft Small Business Edition Server.

    Any non-server edition, even the professional versions, will only allow a single site with IIS.

    If you have a version that proves me wrong, I'd like to know about it.
