How To Configure Server to use var instead of usr for public files
I am using Apache CentOS 6 and it wants to serve all the private files from a few folders within the usr folder, which isn't what I am used to. I have looked for ways to configure it so it gets straight from var/home/theusername/public_html/, but I don't remember how to do that.
The server wants to serve files from usr/, but I can't upload to that area via ftp, since my security is too tight and I don't remember what setting I changed in what file to make it impossible to access any folder and file via FTP. Any help would be appreciated.

Open a console, su to root, and open the httpd.conf file, usually found here:
scite is my editor.
Look for two lines, one says Document Root, the other says <Directory
Change the entries for both. Then restart you server.
#service httpd restart
Make sure you have full permissions in the directory.
